Fall is normally a busy time for the webcasting industry, but this year, there have been more events held and more .  Recently, pulvermedia expanded its VON show to host its first Video On The Net show in Boston, StreamingMedia.com held its first Streaming Media event in Europe in several years and the NAB Post show became NAB New York and featured a number of companies and sessions focusing on streaming media.  Next up, Streaming Media West is coming to San Jose and Web 2.0 comes to San Francisco.  These are just a few of the events that are listed on the industry events page on the IWA website.  If you find one we missed, let us know!
Also, everyone’s been talking about the Google acquisition of YouTube for $1.65 billion.  Is this a smart deal, or has Google just bought itself a lot of legal troubles?  Opinions abound, but one thing is for sure – money is flowing into the streaming media sector and offering significant opportunities for companies to grow their businesses.  Several IWA member companies have either received new rounds of funding
With everything happening in our industry, the IWA is pleased to announce that the board of directors is currently working on new initiatives to serve the industry better than ever before in 2007.  The IWA will be hosting a special open-invitation reception at Streaming Media West in San Jose on Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 3:30-4:30.  The reception will be on the exhibit hall floor at the San Jose Convention Center.   We will be discussing the goals of the association for 2007 and encouraging everyone who is not a part of the IWA to join with us to help us achieve these goals.  If you plan to be at Streaming Media West, we hope to see you there!
The IWA has a new feature on the association website – the IWA WebcastingWiki!  It’s a work in progress, but we hope to develop it into an open-source guide to all facets of webcasting and our industry.  Check it out at http://webcasting.wikia.com/wiki/ and help us add to it!
One last thing, the IWA webcast "Understanding the Investment Potential of the Webcasting Sector" has been rescheduled.  The new date will be Friday, December 8, 2006 at 2 PM ET US.  This webcast will feature both investment professionals and leading webcasting companies in order to educate both sides as to the opportunities for investment in the industry. these goals.

Sincerely,

Kevin Shively
Executive Director
