Democrats Choose Alderson and TV
Worldwide for Accessible 2004 Convention Web Video Streaming
to Include All Americans
"Webcapting(SM)" Capability Will
Allow Captioned Video Streaming of Convention Activities and
Interaction With Disabled Participants on TV Worldwide's AT508.com
Internet TV Channel (www.AT508.com)
CHANTILLY, VA--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 23, 2004
-- TV Worldwide.com Inc., Alderson Reporting, Inc., and the
Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced a strategic
alliance that will enable people with disabilities to participate
in the 2004 Democratic Convention through interactive open-captioned
video streaming on TV Worldwide's Internet TV Channel for
the disability community, AT508.com (www.AT508.com).
The joint venture employs the technique developed by TV Worldwide
known as "Webcapting(SM)" to caption a live video
streaming signal of convention activities on both the DNC
home internet website www.dnc.org
and at AT508.com on the TVWorldwide.com network. During breaks
in convention activities, the AT508.com and TVWorldwide.com
team will provide coverage and commentary from the perspective
of the disability community in an interactive format through
chatrooms and e-mail.
The TV Worldwide reporting team will feature
world-renowned disability columnist John Williams covering
the convention from the perspective of the community of people
with disabilities, just as he's done for other disability
conventions and assistive technology shows worldwide, including
TASH, ATIA, CSUN and CEC. "I am pleased to assist in
making the Democratic Convention accessible to over 54 million
Americans with disabilities," stated Williams.
Becky Ogle, Senior Advisor on Disability
for the Democratic National Committee, remarked, "We
are proud that the 2004 Democratic National Convention will
be the most technologically accessible convention. The open
captioned video streaming will enable persons with hearing
disabilities to participate real-time during the entire convention."
And Ogle also noted, "As with most universal design,
access to people with disabilities will open doors to other
populations, such as persons whose first language is other
than English, another important constituency for the Kerry-Edwards
team."
To insure quality and accuracy, captions
used during the broadcast will originate directly from the
real-time feed of the proceedings prepared by Alderson Reporting
Company. Both Democrats and Republicans have chosen Alderson
to provide the official transcripts of their conventions for
more than 50 years, and the company now plays an important
role in providing Internet content and access.
Alderson Reporting Company President Rose
Ann Sharp said, "In the same way that the Americans with
Disabilities Act opened the doors of many offices to the disabled
and allowed them to join the workforce, webcapting is opening
the doors for the disabled to the office of the future. That
is because the office of the future will be on the Internet
-- not in a building made of bricks and mortar."
As Alderson Reporting transcribes the Democratic
Convention proceedings, engineers from TVWorldwide.com will
"webcapt(SM)" the broadcast for disabled participants.
The Alderson/TV Worldwide team also provided "webcapting(SM)"
for the 2000 Democratic Convention, live from Los Angeles.
"We are pleased once again to have
been selected for this live webcast and we are preparing technically
to support huge participation from the community of people
with disabilities," commented Dave Gardy, Chairman and
CEO of TVWorldwide.com. "It's events like this that make
AT508.com one of our most popular Internet TV channels."
